I can’t remember when I first learned of Dick Gregory, a comedian from St. Louis, MO. Baba Gregory was born October 12, 1932 during the time of Jim Crow. ‘Jim Crow’ were laws created to continue segregation of Blacks and Whites, and other issues aimed at Black people.

The Jim Crow era occurred near the end of the Reconstruction period and before the Civil Rights movement.

And, Dick Gregory, lived through it all.

As I stated before, I can’t remember exactly how long I have known about Dick Gregory. Some knew him as a comedian. Others revered (or hated) him as a Civil Rights activist.

But, I do remember the time that I began to really listen and follow Gregory. Shortly, after Trayvon Martin was murdered, I was going through a strange awakening of sorts and I needed to find someone to lead me through the mangled thoughts and revelations I was discovering.
